January 7, 2025 — Leaptran Selected by U.S. Department of Energy to AdvanceInterconnection Innovation Alongside our utility partners, Leaptran—together with a group of leading utilities and innovators—has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) through a highly competitive process to help streamline distributed generation interconnection queue management andanalysis. Our Forecasting-Based Generator Interconnection Analytics Software Tool (F-AST) will simplify and accelerate the interconnection process for renewable energy projects larger than 100 kilowatts, supporting both rural and urban distribution networks.

October 2023 — Leaptran wins major SBIR funding and innovation prizes for its solar forecasting technology, reinforcing its role in advancing grid forecasting solutions.
December 2017 — Launched as a spinout from UTSA, Leaptran originated from more than a decade of research in building energy optimization and DER integration. It secured NSF I-Corps funding and a DOE SBIR Phase I award, and began collaborating with UTSA and CPS Energy on microgrid-level DER optimization.
